Once more...with feeling

Wow....whole lotta nothing. I've been meaning to contribute to this digital monument to my great gaps in consciousness, but haven't found the time and/or motivation of late.

Susie recommended that I record my aerial experiences in a bloggish sort of way, and I think it's a darn good idea. Partially as a way to document my expanding vocabulary of tricks. Partially as a way to document the other, far less tangible aspects the high bar introduces to my life.

So I'll start with last night. Meant to take a flexibility class - but I showed up and saw that only 2 people had registered for trapeze tricks. And then Jen told me that Kerren was not only back from her tour - but was teaching. A slight nudge from Jen was all it took to switch. I had a leotard in my bag, but not tights. Note to self: do not ever do trap tricks in yoga pants. I almost lost my leggings to repeated Russian rolls.

Last night was one of those times when things just weren't clicking. I found myself apologizing repeatedly to Kerren for my performance. Halfway through class I felt nauseous and I found myself fighting the urge to hurl the rest of the time. I felt weak and ill-prepared. And I really dig Kerren - I was disappointed that this was her re-introduction to me, despite her saying I did great.

Refuse to be down about it. Not every class can be a winner - and I'm lucky that my shitty classes are few and far between. My forearms and thighs are properly re-bruised and Kerren pointed out a few minor adjustments I can make that should brighten the tricks in the future.

Here's what I worked on:
  • Russian roll - one legged (worked on getting both arms locked simultaneously for a double-legged Russian roll by doing repeated sit-ups on the bar)
  • Mermaid roll-up - Kerren said I look really good doing the trick, and it bodes well for the gazelle roll-up coming together.
  • Gazelle roll-up - need to work on moving the bar over on my sacrum, and need to work on getting my hips up and over when I roll.
  • Stingray - because I can.
  • Arabesque sequence to sleeping beauty - did *ok* but it could have been far prettier. Need to work on it. A lot.
  • Double-leg crochet - seemed like I should have started from a squat. Need to get hips up higher.
  • Angel drop - didn't really get into this one too much...so I slid more than dropped.
  • Climb the mountain/drop - meh. Wanted to do that cos Rick made fun of me 'milking the cow' on Saturday. He's right. I was tired and didn't do a great job.
That's about it. Need to get my head into it on Wednesday; hopefully Aloysia will teach. And Kerren said she's teaching Friday (and Rick said he's teaching as well)...so that will be my opportunity to make up for last night.

Over and out.

postulations

After yet ANOTHER absence, I think I've decided that FINALLY, yes, FINALLY, I'm going to devote myself at least partially to updating this damn thing.  And I'm going to catalog crap I like (in keeping with the name).  It will include (but not be limited to):

1. music
2. movies
3. books
4. rad kid-related stuff
5. sewing
6. running
7. animation
8. daily moments of transcendence

With a half marathon coming up next weekend (running), Thea's Halloween costume (sewing) and the remnants of Ottawa glee (animation)...hopefully bleeding into a leap I'm ready to make, well, now seems like as good a time as any to get back into it.

So, to start it off, a pic I keep on my desktop cos it makes me damn happy every time I look at it.  This reminds me of happy times.  Here's to more of those.
